A pandemic activity Nº5

I've been growing my own vegetables for the last 12 years. I am enjoying it more and more every year. I think I am getting good at it!

Especially with the pandemic I realized even more, how important it is to do for your own health as much as you possible can. And eating 100 % bio-organic vegetables definitely is a good choice.

I have a beautiful wooden raised garden bed (I love it so much!!) in front of our house and also a large piece of garden few kilometers away.

So far I've planted: potatoes, zucchini, lettuce, peas, leak, carrot, different flowers, beetroot, pumpkins. And I already have plenty of herbs on the raised garden bed that survived the winter.

  1. I love your homegrown vegetables!!

I am so uninformed... What is growing in season right now? I always look forward to all of your vegetable pictures throughout the year! <3

    1. Dear Phoenix, in our parts of the word the planting season has just started. I have some lettuce that will be ready in 3 weeks time. Peas are now 3 cm large so this means the first ones will be ripe at the end of June. And the very first potatoes (see the photo above) will be good to eat in mid-June. What I love the most are my zucchinis, but the very first is usually big enough to pick up only in the first week of July.

    2. I have another silly question. Do you fry food in Slovenia? Fried zucchini is one of my favorite things!! It's really good dipped in ranch dressing. (Lol, are my Southern roots showing?) I can take anything healthy and give it an unhealthy twist haha!

That is so exciting!! The lettuce, the peas, and the potatoes. I bet they taste so much better than what I buy at the store. Although in my new small town, there is a seasonal farmer's market once a week where I started buying produce. Sooo much tastier! You just made me remember about that. Hopefully, it starts up again soon.

My boyfriend and I dream of getting a greenhouse so he can grow vegetables. I will help, but, unlike me, he actually knows what he's doing. It will happen someday! :)

    1. Dear Mali, I do hope that pandemic is over soon and that you visit us again in Slovenia. Do plan at least 7x longer stay here then the last time ;) Can't wait!!

  3. Beautiful! I am jealous, as I can successfully grow flowers galore, and herbs, but actual veggies escape me. I have raised beds coming for my birthday, but I think the majority of space will be for a cutting garden! I love that you are a few weeks ahead in growing season, and I can get a peek at what's to come. Wonderful pandemic activity!

  4. There's nothing like homegrown vegetables! I wasn't very successful as a gardener when we had our house... but my dad still has a garden, although he's finding it harder to keep up as he gets older, and gave some of the space to a neighbour last year. I love eating new potatos, carrots and yellow wax beans fresh from the garden when we're there in the summertime!
