Stolen child

This would be my biggest fear: to adopt a stolen child.

  1. I agree that if I had gone down the adoption route, that would have been my biggest nightmare!
I was horrified a few years ago when I saw a documentary about the stolen babies in Spain... it started under the Franco regime (stealing babies from families against Franco to give them to "good" franquist families...), but it didn't even end with the regime, as it became a baby traffic all the way until the 90s... a very elaborate traffic (they even had a dead baby body ready to be shown to mothers to prove their child hadn't survived birth, while the child was sold for adoption...). Spain is now building one of the biggest DNA banks because families are trying to find their lost babies 20, 30, 40, 50 years later!
I now searched a bit for newspaper articles about it, but the most complete and seemingly well documented work I found is the following (I only scanned through it, haven't read it all):

  2. Same! This was one of our huge issues with international adoption. I think things are a lot better than they were in the 70s, but I'm sure it still happens. And again I feel so sorry for his parents (the people who seem to be left out of the story) who adopted him with no knowledge that he was kidnapped.
